Gordon Smith keeps bringing home the gold.

15 Oct 2023 by Graeme Spurr

Gordon, Life Member of EHC, returned from the Australian Masters Championships held in Perth last week having captain/coached the Victorian O/80s to another gold medal performance.
Vic 4 def WA 3 after strokes in the final.
Gordon noted that they don’t do shootouts past the over 70 age group. Maybe it has something to do with the 8 second limit?
WA had defeated Vic twice 0-1 during the tournament, but Gordon’s squad was able to force the gold medal match to strokes after ending full-time 1-1.
Also in the team from Essendon was Max Blakiston who said they had a great time despite the team having to play a couple of games in over 30o temperatures and only having a touring squad of 14. It appears Max may have torn his right meniscus in Rd 3 and was forced to play left wing with heavy strapping, but he was still able to score a field goal.
Gordon was also the oldest player competing in the tournament and was interviewed by HA, keep an eye out for that.
Congratulations to Gordon and Max, making Essendon proud.
