Congratulations to Essendon Men’s Masters Players Barry Paice, Max Blakiston (O/75s), Peter Urie and Clive Harrison (O/65s) for being named in Australian Squads to compete in the Masters World Cup in Tokyo 19/10-29/10/22.

Barry, a Life Member, started his hockey as a 7 year old junior at Ascot Vale before switching at 18 to Essendon in 1963 , won many premierships and has represented Australia at the Masters level regularly since 1997 . Barry brought home some silvers but finally a gold from the Masters World Cup in Newcastle in 2018.

Max is technically still a “shadow” but as he said, “in the O/75s, there is a long way to go before October and plenty can happen”. Originally from WA, Max has been playing since school days and represented Vic from O/40s and won a gold medal for Australia in O/75s at Barcelona World Cup 2018.

Peter “Bart” Urie started his hockey career with some impressive lineage at Essendon and was an A grade regular thereafter but took a 22 year sabbatical and has come back to a different/better game. Bart is also now playing Pen E and enjoying running around with others 50 years younger than he.

Clive Harrison is a new recruit from NSW and has regularly played in the Australian Masters sides and is also having a lot of success this year, running around in Pen E with the youngsters. Rumour has it that he appeared in both mega-rock bands like KUSH and LRB as a bass player.
